Backroads with fall foliage in October and NovemberWest to east in the San Gabriel Mountains:
Pine Canyon Road [N2] from Old Ridge Route at Quail Lake Junction [SR 138] through Elizabeth Lake
Soledad Canyon Road south side of Frwy 14 from Bee Canyon through Acton
Angeles Forest Highway from Upper Big Tujunga Road [Camp Colby turnoff] to Mill Creek Summit
Chilao Picnic Area loop from Visitor Center to campgrounds
Pallet Creek Road to Valyermo Road to Big Road Creek Road to end of pavement
Big Pines Highway from Valyermo Road to SR 2, Angeles Crest Highway, through Wrightwood
SR 138 east from Cajon Junction to Lake Silverwood and Summit Valley to Mojave River Forks [not in San Gabriels, but has more ash trees than are found there]
Outside of the San Gabriels
Color is provided by ash, bigleaf maple, buckeye, cottonwoods, black and valley oak, sycamore and willows; berries, roses, and rabbitbrush.
